Howard Tilton Library
Re-envisioning of the fourth room "Aron Room" at Tulane University's Howard Tilton Library
Project Type: Historic Preservation, Institutional, In Progress
Location: New Orleans, LA
Project Size: 2,400 square feet
Project Description
In Progress
Three simple elements—glass partitions, furniture, patterned carpet—transform an underutilized corner, originally named the “Aron Room,” of Tulane University’s Howard Tilton Library into a reconfigurable space for both lectures and study. Enclosing the space in glass allows for acoustic separation while maintaining existing light levels within the stacks; movable mid-century modern furniture accentuates existing wood coffers while allowing flexibility in use; and hints of green in the carpet subtly connect the interior space of the library to the views of Tulane’s verdant campus. By day, the space operates as a casual, student-centric study room. At night, simple rearrangements allow for lectures and special events in a more formal setting.
