Spanning an entire city block in the heart of downtown Pensacola, the development of One Palafox Place called for a master planning process that considered both programmatic use and leasable space planning. With the guidance of the design team, these efforts resulted in construction that includes the rehabilitation and restoration of three historic buildings into a mixed use development. The development features ground floor retail, office space, and multi-family housing.
The former office spaces of the Brent Building have been converted into apartments with modern amenities and architectural design work to further highlight historic components. Original corridors have been maintained, existing ceiling and masonry walls exposed, and the buildings hardwood floors refinished. In addition, light wells were repurposed to provide private outdoor living space to many of the interior apartments.
An outdoor breezeway lined with small retail spaces was incorporated into the ground floor. This feature enhances the urban experience by providing shelter from heat and rain, access to parking, and shopping along the way.
