YWCA New Orleans

Architectural design for the new YWCA - New Orleans facility located in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans.

Project Type: Institutional, In Progress
Location: New Orleans, LA
Project Size: 15,000 square feet

Project Description

Unbuilt: Funding Phase

As a non-profit organization, coming back from Hurricane Katrina with little to no funds is a challenge to the YWCA’s rebuilding and social services efforts. Located on Jefferson Davis Parkway, the YWCA facility is a recognizable building within the heart of the Mid-City neighborhood in close proximity to Tulane Avenue. This familiar location and the services offered provide crucial support for women across the metro area.

Trapolin-Peer Architects is currently designing a new facility to consolidate services previously provided in two badly damaged and flooded buildings on the same block. The firm is working with the YWCA to identify their programmatic needs while designing a facility within the parameters of their site and budget constraints. These programs include counseling, training, daycare and community-based activities. The overall goal is to help YWCA realize their vision of creating a safe yet inviting environment for women and children while reinforcing the YWCA’s commitment to eliminate racism and empower women.
