Gretna Fire Station 1, composed of an apparatus bay and connected two story firehouse, will soon serve as a gateway into the Historic Downtown Gretna.
The structure’s site, directly adjacent to the David Crockett Fire Company Anthony J. “Tony” Labruzza memorial fire station, was studied to ensure that the form and scale of the new maintained a dialogue with the existing historic fabric, while providing the necessary space for the facility. Rather than considering this project as a typical fire station, the scale of the building was escalated that it may serve its community as a true civic building. Programs additional to the living quarters for fireman and office space include administrative office headquarters, a gym, two private day-rooms as well as assembly space and commercial kitchen accessible to the public for larger scale events. With its prominent location on Lafayette, entry points and programs are strategically placed to allow multiple functions to occur simultaneously.
